چکیده

Linear projection equations arise in many optimization problems and have important applications in science and engineering. In this paper, we present a recurrent neural network for solving linear projection equations in real time. The proposed neural network has two layers and is amenable to parallel implementation with simple hardware. In the theoretical aspect, we prove that the proposed neural network can converge globally to the solution set of the problem when the matrix involved in the problem is positive semidefinite and can converge exponentially to a unique solution when the matrix is positive definite. In addition, we analyze the stability of the related dynamic system in detail. As an application, we show that the proposed neural network can be used directly to solve linear and convex quadratic programming problems and linear complementary problems with positive semidefinite matrices. The validity and transient behavior of the neural network are demonstrated by using three numerical examples. q 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

AANN: an alternative to GMM for pattern recognition

The objective in any pattern recognition problem is to capture the characteristics common to each class from feature vectors of the training data. While Gaussian mixture models appear to be general enough to characterize the distribution of the given data, the model is constrained by the fact that the shape of the components of the distribution is assumed to be Gaussian, and the number of mixtu...

Assessing interactions among neuronal systems using functional neuroimaging

We show that new methods for measuring effective connectivity allow us to characterise the interactions between brain regions that underlie the complex interactions among different processing stages of functional architectures.

It is demonstrated that rotational invariance and reflection symmetry of image classifiers lead to a reduction in the number of free parameters in the classifier. When used in adaptive detectors, e.g. neural networks, this may be used to decrease the number of training samples necessary to learn a given classification task, or to improve generalization of the neural network. Notably, the symmet...

Distributed ARTMAP: a neural network for fast distributed supervised learning

Distributed coding at the hidden layer of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) endows the network with memory compression and noise tolerance capabilities. However, an MLP typically requires slow off-line learning to avoid catastrophic forgetting in an open input environment. An adaptive resonance theory (ART) model is designed to guarantee stable memories even with fast on-line learning. However, AR...
